Allianz Global Assistance

Egypt Travel Statement

Travel restrictions are currently in force in relation to flights to and from Sharm el Sheikh (as at 5th November 2015).

Based on information available, Allianz Global Assistance offers the following advice to its customers.

Customers in the Resort

Customers are advised to contact their Travel Company, Travel Company representative or a representative from the Foreign Office for information relating to arrangements for returning home.

Customers who have not yet travelled

Those with holidays booked within the next 48 hours to Sharm el Sheikh are advised to contact their Travel Company to discuss their options. If you have booked a package you will be entitled to a refund or alternative holiday.

If you are not travelling within the next 48 hours you will need to check with your Travel Company as to what your options are and follow their advice.

Those people with bookings beyond this are advised to wait until closer to the departure date to contact their Travel Company as the situation is reviewed.

Cancelled holidays

  • In the event of cancellation arising due to current restrictions, typically tour operators and carriers will offer the customer a full refund of their holiday cost or an alternative holiday – customers should in the first instance contact their travel provider to ascertain the position regarding refunds or alternatively the transfer to another destination.
  • If flights are cancelled and the policyholder does not travel, we are happy to refund in full travel insurance premiums paid for single trip policies.
Note: We are unable to make any refund or partial refunds for customers with Annual Multi-trip policies as the policy would still be valid for other trips.
  • For customers who make arrangements to travel at a later date or to a different destination, single trip policies can be transferred to the new trip.
Note: Any appropriate additional premium if the new trip is longer or to a high priced geographical area (e.g. USA/Caribbean) would need to be paid.

Typically, AGA travel policies provide cover only for certain  events.

Unfortunately the cancellation of flights due to government restrictions is not something covered by the policy – as such, customers are unable to claim for any additional expenses that may be incurred as a result of the delay.

Customers travel policies will however be automatically extended for up to 31 days and shall continue to provide cover for any other (insured) event that may occur.

If you wish to submit a request for a refund of your policy, please contact Allianz Global Assistance as below.
